SCREW AND GEAR


THE SCREW 



1. A tread- sharped inclined plane spiralling up an upright-plane
2. It can fix two object together.
3. It also fasten furniture together or fasten hinges on doors.
4. Examples of tools which use the concept of the screw are:-

 






a) Drill bit


b) Tap

 


c) Spanner


d) Bottle opener




THE GEAR

 

1. Consist of a wheel with teeth.
2. Gears make movement easier.
3. It helps change the speed and the direction of movement.
4. When two gears are in contact, the movement of one gear will rotate the other gear to move.
5. One gear turns anticlockwise, the other gear turns in the opposite direction as shown below.
   

6. The big gear turns ones, the small gear turns many times and faster than the big gear.
7. Gear can be found on a bicycle.
8. In a bicycle, the small gear (A), is connected to the big gear by a chain.
9. When we pedal, the big gear (B) will turn as well as the chain.
10. This makes the small gear turn and the wheel of the bicycle will turn as well.
11. The bicycle will move forward.
12. Gears are also found in a watch and an egg beater.
